About the exhibition
薄明（はくめい）とは、日の入り後の薄明るい空のことです。
昼と夜の境界を描き、捉えきれない形を追いました。
hakumei, the pale luminosity that persists in the sky after sunset.
These works trace the threshold between day and night,
in pursuit of the elusive forms that lie just beyond.

1979 福岡県生まれ
2003 沖縄県立芸術大学大学院 造形芸術研究科 生活造形専攻 陶磁器専修 修了
2003 沖縄県立芸術大学陶芸コース 教育補助嘱託員
2005 沖縄県立芸術大学陶芸コース 非常勤講師「土器」（〜2005）
2022 独立
2023 日本和文化グランプリ 優秀賞／Excellent Award
土器〜「イッチン」技法による彩色磁器の作品を制作。
国内で指導、展覧会を中心に活動

陶芸の伝統技法を独特な文様と色彩で表現し、お手に取ってくださる方其々の背景が呼び起こされるような作品を作りたいと日々取り組んでいます。
伝統文化は作り手の修練と使う人々一人一人の想いが連なって大きく形を成して行くものと考えています。
連なる一部分になれる様、一層の努力をして参ります。
Mariko Yasukawa is a contemporary ceramic artist working in porcelain, specialising in the traditional icchin (trailing slip) technique combined with delicate polychromatic glazing. Her practice explores the intersection of heritage craft methods and poetic contemporary expression.
Education & Training
2003: Completed postgraduate studies in Ceramics at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts
Post-graduation: Served as teaching assistant and later part-time lecturer at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts
2005–2021: Apprenticed and worked under Mariko Furuya at 3rd point ceramic studio, Tokyo
2021: Established independent practice
2023: Excellence Award, Japan Wa-Culture Grand Prix, for the work Matoi
Artist comment:
"I work daily to express traditional ceramic techniques through distinctive patterns and colours, creating pieces that might awaken the memories and emotions of those who hold them. I believe traditional culture takes its great form through the concatenation of the craftsperson's discipline and the individual feelings of each person who uses the work. I shall continue my efforts to become part of this continuity."
