中目黒のコンテンポラリー陶芸・アートギャラリー「Under the Tracks」では、2026年5月21日より金継ぎ教室を開講します。
講師紹介：西山 明（にしやま あきら）
西山明氏は東京藝術大学工芸科（漆芸専攻）にて修士号を取得。国宝級の作品の修復を手がけてきた、卓越した漆芸家・金継ぎ専門家です。
金継ぎのプロセス
金継ぎは、漆の自然な硬化サイクルに沿った、ゆっくりとした芸術です。陶器に新しい美しさと命を与えます。
制作期間： 漆付けの複雑さにより、陶器の大きさや状態によりが変わります。
作業の進め方： 各セッションを有効に活用するため、参加者は通常3〜5点を並行して制作します。割れ方によってさまざまな技法を用います。
保管： 制作中の作品はデリケートなため、ギャラリー内の保管ボックスをお使い頂けます。
展覧会： 「Under the Tracks」ギャラリーにて会員作品による金継ぎ展を開催します。
レッスンの日程と予約
最初のレッスンは5月21日木曜日です。の後は第2・第4木曜日に進みます。漆の硬化に必要な時間を確保するため、この間隔で行います。（必ず毎回同じ間隔で出席する必要はございません）
日程は希望の日をお選びいただけます。お休み自由。行きたい時だけ予約して下さい。
レッスンは2時間30分ですが、遅刻・早退も自由です。すべてのレッスンは個人と作品に合わせて進めるため、ご自身のペースで取り組んでいただけます。1レッスンあたりの定員は6〜7名に限定し、陶器に合ったご指導をお約束します。
キャンセルはレッスン2日前まで無料ですが、それ以降はご対応できません。
午後の部： 14:30〜17:00（お茶付き）
夜の部： 18:00〜20:30（お茶付き）

入会金（一回のみ）： 14,500円＋税 ※4月30日までのご登録で11,000円＋税に割引
道具セット（一回のみ）： 西山先生より直接6,500円でご購入いただけます。すでにお持ちの場合は不要です。（金属粉は別途先生またはご自身でご用意頂きます。漆のみで完成する事も可能です）

FAQ・よくあるご質問
進み方について
Q：なぜそんなに時間がかかるのですか？1日で完成するワークショップもあると聞きましたが。 A：1日で完成するワークショップは化学接着剤を使用しており、厳密には「金継ぎ」とは呼べません。金継ぎとは漆（と金）を使う伝統的な文化的技法であり、漆の硬化には数ヶ月を要します。漆は天然素材で、硬化後は完全に不活性となるため、修復した食器での飲食も安全です。
Q：割れた器がない（または1点しかない）場合はどうすればよいですか？ A：制作用の器をこちらでご用意することができます。また、漆を使った箸への塗りや装飾など、漆芸としての別メニューもご相談いただけます。
漆について
Q：漆でかぶれると聞きましたが、本当ですか？ A：生漆に直接触れると皮膚炎を起こす場合があります。そのため、漆を扱う際には使い捨てのビニール手袋の着用（教室にてご用意）と、十分な換気を行うことが一般的です。
Q：漆で修復した食器でアレルギー反応は起きませんか？ A：いいえ、問題ありません。漆は硬化すると完全に不活性化します。漆は空気中の水分を吸収して硬化し、その過程でかぶれの原因物質が不可逆的に封じ込められます。
お支払い・予約について
Q：参加者はどのように決まりますか？ A：登録後、ネットにて先着順でレッスンをお取りできます。
Q：レッスンの領収書の発行は可能ですか？ A：はい、対応可能です。
Q：使用できる支払い方法は何ですか？ A：QRコード決済アプリを除き、各種お支払い方法に対応しております。店頭払い・オンライン払いどちらも可能です。
Q：都合が悪くなった場合、チケットを友人に譲れますか？ A：いいえ、チケットは購入者樣のお名前での登録制となっており、他の方への譲渡はできません。
Q：予定が変わった場合、レッスン代の払い戻しはできますか？ A：レッスンチケットは返金不可となっております。
ロケーションやスペースについて
Q：飲食は可能ですか？ A: 作業するテーブル以外のソファーやカウンターテーブルにて飲食は可能です。その際のゴミはお持ち帰りお願い致します。
Kintsugi Club
The Kintsugi Process
Kintsugi is a meditative, slow-paced art form that follows the natural hardening cycle of lacquer：
Timeline: Depending on the complexity of the lacquer-bonding work a single item typically takes between 4 to 12 months to complete.
Workflow: To make the most of each session, participants generally work on 3 to 5 pieces in parallel. There are various techniques that can be applied depending on how the piece was broken.
Storage: Since the pieces are fragile during this process they will be stored safely on-site in your own personal box within our space.
Exhibition: We will hold a Kintsugi exhibition at the Under the Tracks gallery for members’ works at least once a year
Lesson Times and Booking
The first session will be on Thursday May 21st after which we will be running sessions on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month. This pace gives the necessary time for urushi lacquer to harden.
We will release the dates of lessons three months in advance so you can book your preferred spots on a first come first served basis. You only need to book when you can attend - there is no penalty for skipping sessions for holidays etc.
The sessions are 2.5hrs in length, but you are free to arrive late or leave early. You can move forward at the pace you are comfortable with for the piece you are working on - you won’t be told to speed up or slow down. Places will be limited to 7 members per lesson ensuring plenty of contact time with the Nishiyama sensei.
Cancellations are free up to 2 days before the lesson, but we cannot accommodate them after that.
Afternoon Session: 14:30–17:00 (includes tea)

Interpretation support
Since Nishiyama sensei speaks very limited English if you are not an advanced Japanese speaker we recommend that you join our interpretation supported option, in which we (Natsume or James) will provide 2-way interpretation between you and Nishiyama sensei so you can get the full benefit of his advice and guidance.
This option is an additional ¥1,500 +tax per session. Tuition is mostly one-on-one, so it makes sense for this fee to be applied on a per-student basis.
Course Fees
Enrollment Fee (one-time only): ¥14,500 + tax. Discounted to ¥11,000 + tax for registrations by April 30th.
Tool Set (one-time only): Can be purchased directly from Mr. Nishiyama for ¥6,500. This is unnecessary if you already own a set. (Metal powder must be prepared separately by the instructor or yourself. It is also possible to complete the piece using only lacquer.)
Session Tickets: ¥6,000 +tax per ticket, sold in sets of 6. (¥7,500 +tax for the interpretation supported option)

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
About the process
Q: Why does it take so long? I heard there are workshops that can be completed in a day.
A: Workshops that are completed in one day use chemical adhesives and cannot strictly be called "Kintsugi." Kintsugi is a traditional cultural technique using lacquer (and gold), and the hardening of the lacquer requires several months. Lacquer is a natural material, and once cured, it becomes completely inert, making repaired tableware safe for eating and drinking.
Q: What should I do if I don't have a broken piece (or only have one)?
A: We can provide ceramic pieces for you to work on. You can also consult us about alternative lacquer art options, such as applying lacquer or decorations to chopsticks.
About urushi safety
Q: I heard that lacquer can cause a rash; is that true?
A: Direct contact with raw lacquer can cause dermatitis. Therefore, it is customary when handling lacquer to wear disposable vinyl gloves (provided in the classroom) and ensure sufficient ventilation.
Q: Will the tableware repaired with lacquer cause an allergic reaction?
A: No, there is no issue. Lacquer becomes completely inert once it hardens. Lacquer cures by absorbing moisture from the air, and in this process, the substance that causes the rash is irreversibly sealed away.

Q: How are participants decided?
A: After registration, lessons can be booked online on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q: Is it possible to issue a receipt for the lessons?
A: Yes, we can provide that.
Q: What payment methods are accepted?
A: We accept various payment methods, excluding QR code payment apps. Both in-gallery and online payments are possible.
Q: If I can't make it, can I transfer my ticket to a friend?
A: No, tickets are registered under the purchaser's name and cannot be transferred to others.
Q: If my schedule changes, can I get a refund for the lesson fee?
A: Lesson tickets are non-refundable.
About the space + lesson time
Q: Is eating and drinking permitted?
A: Eating and drinking are permitted at the sofas and counter tables, but not at the work tables. Please take your rubbish home with you.
